TV BSL In-vision Interpreting Workshop Programme
Day 1
After introductions, the students were split into three groups and asked
to give their thoughts on the following topics:
What does In-vision Interpreting mean to you?
State what features and skills an in-vision interpreter should have.
State the channels and programmes that have In-vision signing.

Marilyn and Nikki took the group through the theory and background to
In-vision.
In-vision preparation and resources needed were then discussed.

Day 2
The students were split into four different groups; each group had a
clip from a programme that they had to interpret.
Group A – a children’s cartoon
Group B – a cookery show
Group C – a documentary
Group D – a news programme
They were given time to practice and use the resources available
A professional recording studio was created and each student was given
two chances. They could see the clip being played, and worked from an
autocue.

Day 3
The day started with a discussion about how the filming went and the
original subtitled clips were then shown to the entire group.

The best clips out of the two filmed for each student were then played
back and discussed.
The afternoon consisted of a discussion about BSL linguistics.
At the end of the workshop, students were presented with a DVD of their
work and a certificate.
